Addresses the generation of disposable, one-time-use digital tokens for blockchain transactions: a foundational primitive for tokenized payment instruments and secure on-chain commerce. A single-use asset carries the value of a transaction without exposing a reusable credential, which is what lets card-style safety survive on an open ledger.
Six patents, one payment flow.
Named co-inventor on six blockchain and digital payments patent applications filed by Visa International Service Association: single-use digital assets, cross-border stablecoin remittance, non-custodial wallets, smart contract verification and blockchain-based transaction processing. Read them one by one, or follow the flow they add up to.
A card payment that settles on a blockchain, step by step.
Each application covers one piece of the same journey. Select a step to open the filings that cover it; select it again to clear.
The six filings.
Enables near-instantaneous cross-border remittance using stablecoin-backed digital currency as a settlement medium between fiat systems. Introduces a central settlement ledger with issuer subledgers, liquidity pooling, net blockchain settlement, and automatic fallback to fiat rails when digital currency liquidity is insufficient. Funds arrive in under 10 seconds. Filed with the European, WIPO and Chinese patent offices.
Covers a secure non-custodial wallet architecture with seed phrase generation, private key derivation and cryptographic key management, enabling users to maintain full custody of digital assets while interfacing with payment network infrastructure. Filed with the European Patent Office.
Covers smart contract-based verification of digital wallet account identifiers on a blockchain network, enabling provisioning, transaction authorization, digital asset receipt, cross-wallet transfers and fiat-to-digital conversion through a token service architecture.
Enables blockchain-based transactions using traditional payment credentials or tokens, bridging existing card network authorization flows with on-chain settlement. Covers authorization, post-authorization settlement, and multi-address blockchain transaction routing through a processing network computer.
U.S. patent application covering blockchain-based payment processing and settlement infrastructure. Full details are available through the USPTO.
The same idea, patented in pieces, then built in production.
The applications were filed while I was on Visa's blockchain product team between 2021 and 2023 and published between 2024 and 2026. Read together they describe one thing: a card payment whose authorization still runs on the network everyone already trusts, but whose settlement, cross-border leg and custody move to a blockchain. That is the Layer One of the thesis, and it is what I went on to put into production at Nuvei, where stablecoin settlement went live on Visa and Mastercard rails, and what I now lead at PXP.
These are published patent applications assigned to Visa International Service Association. Titles, numbers, dates and inventor lists are as recorded in the public registers linked above.
Stablecoins are only Layer One.
The patents cover the first layer. The research covers what sits above it: settlement, on-chain FX and tokenized local securities.
